Robert Gordon has written three university textbooks, published by Fairchild/Bloomsbury, internationally by educators and students.
- Perspective Drawing: A Designer’s Method
- Residential Design Studio
- Integrated Drawings Techniques

He continues to write articles on architecture, city planning and urban design. He also provides illustrations for other books in the field.
Gordon co-published and was City Planning Editor for the Hyde Park-Kenwood Voices, (currently held in the Gordon Archive, at the Galvin Library, IIT).
He also wrote, made drawings, plans and photographs for the landmark “Alternatives for Planning Kenwood-Oakland”, in 1968, the first document of its kind to include the community organization as a client to planning. It uniquely presented alternative solutions instead of one from the top-down.
He also was a sportswriter for the Chicago Journal.
